Still discovering DC, we decided to explore the Adams Morgan area to see this beautiful mural! It was really easy to find with lots of street parking.

It’s not our engagement photoshoot, but we like to pretend it is ; ) I guess we’re always practicing.

Yoga on the Mall

Sept. 2016

It was our first time doing Yoga on the Mall, and it could not have been a more perfect day to do it! Fall was here and it’s presence was felt Saturday morning with a crisp in the air. I thought to myself “it would be a perfect morning for a run if I actually enjoyed running”, so yoga it is!

We arrived just in time for the dance warm up. The lawn in front of the stage area was completely packed with Yogis and so we were forced into the overflow on the Washington Monument lawn. If you want a spot up front, definitely arrive early, but it’s not necessary as the speakers were loud enough to hear and you can follow the movements of the people in front of you.

I wouldn’t call myself a “yogi”, I do however enjoy going to yoga classes every now and then and I do my own stretches every morning. Given how flexible I thought I was, there were still some moves that had me feeling awkward because my body wasn’t prepared for it. I definitely was feeling it in places I didn’t know existed.

I gained a new appreciation for yoga and enjoyed seeing other people showcase their ability to control their body and put their limbs into compromising positions. All in all, great vibes were shared and it was a very relaxing and great way to start the morning!

Kayak at Key Bridge

Sept. 2015

Kayak at Key Bridge

For our first time kayaking as a couple, we went to the Key Bridge Boathouse.  Get there early before the line forms. It was very easy to show up, fill out some paperwork, and get ready to kayak. We had a great start to our morning working out kayaking and seeing the different sites along the Potomac River. I will say the river doesn’t have the most pleasant smell and falling in would be the worst.

Peach Picking

Our adventures took us this weekend to Hollin Farms to pick our own peaches! We first heard about Hollin Farms from Chris’ parents, and I kid you not they brought back the best strawberries of my life!  The most freshest, the most juiciest, and the most sweetest strawberries I have ever had!!!

It takes about an hour from the DC area and we went on a Sunday morning so there wasn’t that much traffic. Once you near the farm, there are signs to help guide you, we still got a little turned around because we were listening to our GPS (*note: make sure to follow the signs).

When you first park, you can see this great view of the hills. It was a beautiful sunny day so the hills were lush with greenery. It’s free to enter and we made our way to the peach orchard. We didn’t have a fancy fruit picking device so we used a stick and carefully nudged the peaches to catch them as they fell. We had fun choosing our own peaches and filling our bag.

While you don’t go because the price of the produce ($15 for a bag of peaches), you go for the experience. You go for the ability to pick your own peaches from the tree and the beautiful views. It’s also a positive feeling to know that by going, you support the local farms.

Museum Hack with Mollie! She’s a great tour guide at the National Gallery of Art

Choose Museum Hack to tour this gallery! We had Mollie as our Museum Hack tour guide and she was the best! Having never done a Museum Hack, I didn’t know what quite to expect other than a first time visit to the National Gallery of Art on a rainy DC day. I typically enjoy wandering around a museum getting lost on my own and would probably be one of the onlookers with a self-guided handheld device but what a treat it was to do Museum Hack and to have Molly as our tour guide!!!

Molly was wonderful! She was very personable, knowledgeable, and made our experience one to remember! It’s a big museum and if you’re like me, not really knowing where to begin and end up taking forever to look at everything, having a tour guide to show you some of the more interesting pieces was great. Molly took us to some painting and sculptures and didn’t bog us down spouting off descriptive historical details that we would later forget, she made it light and fun. She gave insight to the background story behind the art pieces, which I thoroughly enjoyed! I would have never known about all the juicy details and scandalous stories had I not gone on this tour. Not only was it fun to hear about the stories, it was interactive. I don’t think I’ve ever left a tour wanting more and even more excited to come back!

  • Bring your camera, as you are able to take pictures! (At least on most of the pieces, some you are not able to take a pictures of like the special exhibitions)
  • Wear comfy shoes. You’re mostly on your feet during the tour but there are some benches in the museum.

Cherry Blossom

Got to pop my Cherry Blossom!

We decided not to do the Cherry Blossom festival and went the last weekend of March 2016 and they were still in full bloom. It was a little busy with people, but not Cherry Blossom Pressed Flower - ICI DC.jpgtoo overcrowded that you could get some shots of just yourself and the flowers. It was an overcast day and the flowers looked almost white, not the full pink I had imagined. It was beautiful nonetheless. I picked up some flowers off the ground and pressed them into a book I had so I could have for a keepsake.

🐶 Dog Friendly event.

Here’s a recap of what it was like the following day we went from the Cherry Blossom Watch website.

Theodore Roosevelt Island

We toured the Theodore Roosevelt Island with the National Park Service Island Safari program. The meeting place was at the footbridge entrance to the island where anyone could join for a guided tour with a ranger. No one else showed up and it turned out to be our own private tour! It was a great little walk around the island, with dog friendly trails, and a great guide telling us stories and the history of the island.
